When starting to work on our project, we encountered many unresolved questions. For instance, it was unclear which information is needed to interpret hormonal data correctly or whether and how data from animal and human research can be integrated. Therefore, a subgroup of the Task Force, the Delphi Steering Group conducted a Delphi study which involved extensive surveying of experts to reach a consensus.

The associated manuscript has been published as a preprint and is currently under review. In sum, we found a broad agreement on the need for, and the key components of a standardized data structure within the PNE community. The experts agreed that the data structure should balance flexibility with standardization to allow for adoptability as well as comparability across many use cases. The results lay the foundation for the subsequent work on the templates and infrastructure.
